Short Description of Instrument
The Chelsea Critical Care Physical Assessment Tool is used to measure physical morbidity and recovery in the critical care population.
Domains: grip strength, bed mobility, supine to sit, sit to stand, standing balance, stepping.
The CPAx is comprised of 10 commonly assessed components of physical assessment, which are evaluated on a 6-point Guttman scale.
Comments
In the intensive care unit (ICU): Good reliability, but not for cognition. For cognition use SF36 for cognitive items instead.
Scoring
Items are scored on a scale of 0 (complete dependence) to 5 (independence). Overall scores range from 0 to 50 points.
